On November 15th, Police noticed what appeared to be a blood drop on Jack Showalter's apartment door. The police noticed the doorknob and door plate were wiped very clean, as well as the door around that area. They also noticed that the enetire row of apartments had a thin grime covering the door knobs and plates. About 8 inches from the ground they saw what looked to them like a drop of blood spatter. Back across the street at the 1122 King street, detectives noted that the drop of suspected blood on Jack Showalter's door matched the drop of blood on the bannister of the King Street House. This was by visual appearance, so possibly the height and weight of whatever the blood came off of, would have been around the same.
Police applied for a search warrant for Jack Showalters apartment. The warrant was approved only for presumptive blood testing. With this warrant, detectives would only be able to enter the apartment IF the drop tested positive as blood on a presumptive test.
They were not able to accomplish that and the detectives had to leave. If that was blood, perhaps it had been washed off with chemical cleaners just as the door and doorknob above, but perhaps not as well.
A week later, on November 23rd, 2022, a maintenance worker from the apartments where Jack Showalter lived, called MPD and told them that he and another worker went in the apartment on Novemvber 22, 2022 to fix a water problem, and they notice multiple blood smudges in the bathroom. Police were able to get a full warrant to search the apartment based on this and they did search Jack Showalter's apartment. The police took over 90 swatches from those and additional suspected blood smears, splatter a patches around Jack Showalters apartment. One thing that really jumps out at me about this is from my first reading when I see a redhead behind a light pole. I always wondered about that.
