The Met | J. S Bach: Sonata No. 2 in A minor (Johnny Gandelsman, violin) | MetLiveArts @metmuseum | Uploaded October 2024 | Updated October 2024, 22 hours ago.
In 2023, violinist Johnny Gandelsman realized a longtime dream: performing J.S. Bach’s six Sonatas and Partitas for solo violin, plus novel arrangements of the composer’s six cello suites, over a weeklong residency at The Met Cloisters. Through four consecutive nights in the resplendent Fuentidueña Chapel, Gandelsman paved a memorable journey through the behemoth pieces, infusing his own, folk-rooted voice through what he considers “some of Bach’s most personal and joyful works.”
