Apple charges the earth for storage in its new M4 Mac Mini, so what are the options to get a lot more fast storage, at a lower price? I put these SSD's through the ringer with aggressive read and write tests to find out how they perform thermally in the enclosures, but also what the performance profile of each SSD looks like across the entire disk.
During this, we run the TLC cache dry and find out how big it is, discover the caching mechanisms used by the drives and if they have dynamic or HMB cache, what does this do to performance?
Temperatures run high as we find which drives run the hotest, and how hot they can go.

Do desktop hard drives really fail sooner?SomeTechGuy2023-11-19 | Desktop drives have a much shorter warranty and they can be cheaper, but do they really fail sooner? I deep dive on AFR (annualized failure rate) analysis on 4Tb to 8Tb disks from Seagate, HGST and Western Digital to find out.
I compare a variety of 4Tb, 6Tb and 8Tb models, including Seagate Barracuda vs Exos and WD Deskstar vs Ultrastar and Megascale DC. Based on nearly 5 billion hours of data from 95,000 drives. Many of the drives have data for up to 9 years of use. You might be surprised what I find.
