Korg MS 20 Tips & Tricks - Chapter 4: Ambient Pad
updated
This is my personal rendition of the song "La Petite Fille de la Mer".
It was not my intention to replicate it exactly. Vangelis' songs are truly unique and very difficult to replicate, so I hope you can forgive my humble performance skills.
The sound you hear is the very first patch I programmed on my new Behringer UB-Xa.
I love how incredibly expressive the poly aftertouch is!
You can download my UB-Xa Sound Bank for free following this link: behringer.com/product.html?modelCode=0722-AAF
Strings and choir were added later (using Roland VP-03).
External FX: Boss DC-2w, ChaseBliss CXM-1978
If you like it, please subscribe to my channel for more videos like this!
Cheers!
I started sampling some phrases, playing some of my favorite presets on GAIA 2 and then I rearranged everything, chopping, slicing and rearranging everything using the internal SP-404 mkII sequencer.
Everything was very easy and intuitive, and this song came out by itself!
It was a very fun and creative process!
I hope you like this song!
Cheers!
I'm using a tone I have just created, called "PolyPrisma" and a Drumkit composed mainly of CR-78 ACB models that were added in the latest TR-8S 3.0 update.
Just a synth and a drum machine, no other gear involved and no external effects added.
Everything's been recorded straight to my audio interface.
I hope you like it!
Cheers!
A hands on programming experience starting from scratch!
WARNING:
Mind your volume levels, there are some serious filter sweeping frequencies that may caught you unprepared!!! :D
Enjoy!
Thanks to GAIA 2 full size keys, knobs and faders, you get the same feel as the original with all the controls where you expect to find them...
...and it sounds amazing thanks to the new integrated SHIMMER REVERB.
No external FX added. Recorded straight from USB-C to computer.
Enjoy! :D
All the sounds you hear in this video, including FX, are coming from GAIA 2, except for the drums track where I used a 808 Kit ZEN-Core Kit.
The song was recorded on 5 separate tracks and then played back live using Zenbeats App on iPad
iPad Air is connected to GAIA 2 via USB-C and it's also powering the instrument.
This is a perfect combo for outdoors music production!!!
I had so much fun playing this song!
If you like this video please put a thumb up and subscribe to my channel!
Thank you!

The tones are in "svz" format, compatible with all Roland ZEN-Core instruments including Zenology
VST.
I hope you like it! ^_^
Today this song is resonating again with my feelings so I decided to play it and to shoot a video.
It happens sometimes that your mind is filled with the same thoughts, coming back again and again and you feel stuck in an endless loop.
This song is about this.
I don't think there's a solution to that, maybe you just need to let things flow, just like I let this song flow through my fingers in order to share it with you.
This song was composed and played using Ericasynths Syntrx only.
As usual everything was played and recorded in real time. No overdubs.
I also added Korg SDD-3000 and Chase Bliss Audio CXM-1978 as delay/reverb.
The track was mastered and finalized using Ableton Live 11.
This song was created using mostly n/zyme sounds (all except for drums and bass tracks).
Everything was played in real time, as usual, with no external FX processing.
More info on n/zyme here: roland.com/global/products/rc_n_zyme_model_expansion
Here's the fourth tutorial.
Fantom is so powerful that you can use multiple instances of n/zyme simultaneously!
In this video I'm showing how to create a scene with 4 parts and I'll be using the motional pad to morph 4 tones in real time!
---
Here's the link to download the scene I have created:
drive.google.com/file/d/11OAKWrRrjZ4h7HkJTuWrLyqtNg1nfNm5/view?usp=share_link
Unzip the file and put the "nzyme scene" folder in a USB drive in the following path: ROLAND/SOUND/
In Fantom MENU screen select UTILITY , IMPORT, IMPORT SCENE, then select the file and confirm.
Have fun!

Here's my third tutorial.
In this video I'm showing the Step LFO section, a multiple step modulator to create complex modulation sequences and to shape your sound in real time.

Here's my second tutorial. This time I'm showing the incredible features of the drawing oscillator, an incredible tool to shape the sound with the touch of a single finger!
More info on n/zyme here: roland.com/global/products/rc_n_zyme_model_expansion
Here's my first tutorial on this amazing synth engine that turns Fantom in one of the most creative and powerful sound design tool ever!
In this first tutorial I'm focusing on the Wavetable oscillator section and its shaping tools.
More info on n/zyme here: roland.com/global/products/rc_n_zyme_model_expansion
It contains a lot of arpeggio styles and all the chord progressions and harmonies for past, present and future music: it's up to you how to put them together and create new cool songs.
Korg NTS-1 and norns shield are the perfect couple to create cool digital soundscapes and FX: I love them.
Boss Dm-2w is one if the best analog delay stompbox I've ever had: it sounds huge and creamy and it adds that warm analog texture to anything you put through it.
This song was born while I was just playing around with these little boxes, I hope you like it!
I used Roland Aira Compact J-6, T-8 and Teenage Engineering OP-1.
They are without doubt the ultimate (and most fun) portable instruments for playing outdoors!
Everything's been played in real time and recorded with my old trusty Roland R-05 pocket recorder.
I hope you like it!

I'm waiting to receive the new OP-1 field but in the meantime this song came out and I wanted to share it with you.
Everything you hear in this video has been played played in real time. Some tracks were pre-recorded using the internal 4 track virtual tape recorder.
I added some EQ, FX and final mastering in Ableton Live 11.
I had so much fun playing this song, I hope you like it!
Thanks for watching!
:)
A few days ago they sent me these little magic boxes to try them out and in less than an hour of tweaking, I came out with this song!!!
The song title "A Big Tiny World" is because they are BIG sounding TINY boxes indeed! :D
They are:
- J-6 Chord Synthesizer
- T-8 Beat Machine
- E-4 Voice Tweaker
Their sound quality is astonishing! It's amazing to have the power of ACB technology in such a small form factor...
Everything you hear in this video was played and recorded in real time, no post processing or FX was added.
I had so much fun, I hope you like it!
Every sound you hear in this video comes from this instrument, no overdubs, everything's been played in real time using the 5 internal parts, iArpeggio and the step sequencer.
Inside of each unit that you will find in the stores, there's also a piece of me as I had the privilege to create a lot of factory tones, scenes and the new iArpeggio 2.0 patterns!
I put a lot of love into it and I'm so happy with the final result. I have never felt so good with a synth since System-8, my first real job for Roland. It's a great honour for me to collaborate with them.
This simple song that I played, is not just a demo, it's a declaration of love towards life, for the fact that it led me to do (at least for me) the most beautiful job in the world.
I would like to thank president Jun-Ichi Miki, Hisakazu Yamasato, Akihiro Nagata, Yoshinori Iwamoto, Gota Miyabashira and all the amazing people in Roland I've been in contact with during the last 5 years. You are like superheroes to me, you're really making my dreams come true.
I hope this is only the beginning.
Happy 50th Anniversary Roland!!! 🧡
Built on the classic JUPITER heritage, vintage analog sound has been modernized with new capabilities and creative options.
4 Oscillators with new waveforms, 2 LFOs, 5 Envelopes, Double XMod and Sync options, etc...
A new iArpeggio is introduced, with new patterns and PROBABILITY styles.
O.S. 3.0 also doubles internal memory for user scenes and tones!
Download it for free, following the links below:
Jupiter-X: roland.com/global/support/by_product/jupiter-x/updates_drivers
Jupiter-Xm: roland.com/global/support/by_product/jupiter-xm/updates_drivers
Everything's been played in real time, no overdubs.
In the second part of the video I used the internal pattern sequencer playing along with a lead sound.
This is a live recording of me playing withy my modular.
I'm playing over two overlapping sequences, each with different measures.
This patch is quite simple, just a DPO drone, Bresnso going into a stereo filter (Popple) with Falistri used as double-envelope. Everything was driven by Fraptools Usta sequencer. Some randomness here and there using Fraptools Sapèl.
n/zyme is a thoroughly modern instrument with an innovative new synth engine. Featuring wavetable oscillators, wave drawing tools, phase and shape modulation, resonant filters, and two powerful step LFOs, n/zyme is a sound designer's dream, an incredible tool for sound exploration, making FANTOM the most powerful hardware synthesizer on earth.
I had the incredible honour to be involved in its development programming some of the factory patches.
This video that I created will give you some hints about the huge possibilities that FANTOM can offer, using multiple instances of the n/zyme engine simultaneously.
Everything you hear in this video was played in real time, no overdubs!
n/zyme is available via a Lifetime Key purchase through Roland Cloud.
Support for n/zyme is included with the free Version 3.0 update for the FANTOM 6, FANTOM 7, and FANTOM 8 keyboards.
To learn more about the n/zyme Model Expansion and Roland Cloud, visit Roland.com
Real time performance, no overdubs or backing track.
I used a Roland Jupiter-Xm with BOSS EV-1 WL Wireless Expression Pedal, an iPad Air 4 running the following Apps:
Kymatica AUM, Fugue Machine, Patterning Drum Machine, BPST Zeon, Imaginando DRC, Decent Sampler, Bleass Granulizer, AudioDamage Channel Strip, Kymatica AU3FX Space.
Everything is turning around a semi-random sequence programmed on Frap Tool USTA.
If you want to replicate this patch I shared all the info with the guys at @FrapTools, you can find their patch notes here: https://frap.tools/stage-shift-probability-1/
At the end of the video you will find a complete list of all the modules I used in this patch.
In this video I'm presenting the new Roland Cloud Connect WC-1 and performing a DEMO SONG with some of the patches I programmed for Roland.
This is the best vocoder sound engine I've ever tried!

Before shooting the video I set Fantom as main audio card and I also set it as remote controller on Ableton Live 11 MIDI preferences.
I used the "external instrument" device to record and control each Fantom Part individually.
As you can see everything's been played and recorded in real time, it's really that simple and fun!
I tried to add some "dafty punky" feeling using three of my favourites JD-800 presets.
It was so much fun! I hope you'll enjoy it too!!!
Thank you for watching!
This song is just a test run for some of my new modules.
I used Frap Tools USTA as main sequencer which is driving all the voices on my system, using 3 out of its 4 tracks. The main arpeggio comes from BRENSO VCO, envelopes from FALISTRI and some random magic from SAPÈL. I also added the new Mutable Instruments Beads for some granular texture on the background. White noise and Makenoise MMG (hit by some euclidean pulses) were used for the rhythm track.
Everything was played in real time and recorded straight to my audio card on Ableton Live.
I hope you like it.
Thanks for watching!
Robots never die, I hope they'll be back someday, somehow.
In the meantime I will keep on playing their songs...
Thank you, my beloved robots!
SH-101, Jupiter-8, JX-8P and JUNO-106.
I decided to raise the bar a little by doing this starting from scratch, using 4 INITIALIZED PRESETS!
Will I be able to do it?
Watch the video and see for yourself!!!
Hardcore synth nerds only!!!
(Headphones recommended)
#444xchallenge
I recorded the entire performance on the fly then I added a Drum track (Roland TR-8S) and FX.
Instruments used:
- Erica Synths SYNTRX
- Roland TR-8S
- Arturia Keystep
FX (on Syntrx track):
- Valhalla Shimmer
- Ableton Echo
Recorded, mixed and mastered on Ableton Live 10.
Thanks for watching!
:-)
Played and recorded on the fly, straight to my audio card, no FX added except for a little bit of compression.
I think I barely scratched the surface of this wild beast... but I already love it so much!!!
I had the chance to try a real EMS Synthi some time ago, Syntrx sounds different indeed, but the matrix structure offers the same possibilities with some extras. FM, Ring mod and even the spring reverb with feedback, all of them sound so musical in every setting! It's amazing!
I hope you enjoyed this short video!
Thanks for watching!

It's the first time that I appear in a video talking about myself, the things that I like and my job.
I hope not to bore you 😅

Here's an experiment with my old Landola acoustic guitar.
I played some dirty/muted notes and sampled them across 4 octave range (E1-E5), then I processed the samples through FANTOM ZEN-Core engine, adding some synth layers, using the filter to add expression and dynamics.
Once the patch was ready, I started playing (and recording) straight away and this sort of jam came out... there are some mistakes and sometimes I lost the timing... but I was improvising and everything was played and composed on the fly! :D
I had a lot of fun, I hope you like it too!
Thanks for watching!
I love AIR and their tunes are always a great source of inspiration to me.
I had so much fun playing it, I hope you like it too!
FANTOM CV OUT 1 is controlling the Bass Part (left hand) and CV/GATE 2 is controlling the Lead Part (right hand).
Modwheel's been assigned to CV OUT 3 controlling the Filter Cutoff and VCA.
I used a DrumLoop sample (made with TR-8s), loaded in FANTOM Sample Pad and processed through its Analog Filter.
BOSS Analog Chorus CE-2W was used on the bass part and DM-2W Analog Delay was used on the Lead Part.
SoundToys LittlePlate was used as master reverb.
Recorded, mixed and mastered on Ableton Live 10.
Now with OS Version 2.0 it's possible to sample, load multi-samples and play them on the keyboard!
This song was created using this feature. I sampled some of my favorite instruments and played them back with FANTOM.
Every sound you hear it comes from it, no overdubs, everything was played and sequenced in real time!
Audio was recorded multi-track via USB cable from FANTOM to my Macbook Pro.
Mixed and mastered on Ableton Live.
Video editing on Final Cut Pro.
For detailed info about OS Update 2.0 check out Roland website!
Thank you!
Instant fun and huge sounds from this tiny little monster synth!!!
I love it!
A lot of good vibes in the country.
Audio was recorded using a Roland R05 pocket recorder.
Video was captured with a Canon M6 mkII (22mm 2.0 lens).
The Sound Pack can be loaded on all Roland ZEN-Core compatible instruments including ZENOLOGY.
Get it now on Roland Cloud Manager App!!!
The song "The Ninja way" was programmed and performed in real time using Fantom pattern sequencer. No external FX were added.
During the last year I shot a lot of short video clips on my Instagram page, each of them is about a minute (or less) long. Instead of uploading them here on YouTube one by one, I decided to put them all together in a single video compilation. I hope you'll enjoy it!
Here they are!
