Origin of IWHBYD Skull: The "IWHBYD" (I Would Have Been Your Daddy) skull originated as a legendary Easter egg and gameplay modifier in the Halo franchise. Its origin is broken down into two parts: the phrase itself and the skull's actual debut. The phrase comes from an iconic, rare taunt spoken by Sergeant Avery Johnson (voiced by David Scully) and Sergeant Stacker (voiced by Pete Stacker) in Halo: Combat Evolved.

If you complete the final level on Legendary difficulty, Johnson famously jokes: "I would have been your daddy, but a dog beat me over the fence!" Bungie also named the first chapter of the campaign level "Assault on the Control Room" after this line.
