In this Unreal Engine 5 devlog, I take on what is probably my biggest weakness in game development — melee combat.
It’s something I’ve avoided for a long time. Every time I’ve tried to build a melee system, the results haven’t been great — so in this video, I finally sit down and tackle it properly.
We go through the process of:
• Looking at different combat plugins
• Deciding which one to use
• Integrating it into my project
• Breaking down how it works
• Planning how to build on top of it
For this project, I’m using the **Combat Fury** system as a foundation and exploring how it can be adapted into my game.
🧠 **What We Cover:**
✅ Why melee combat is difficult to get right
✅ Evaluating different combat systems
✅ Choosing the right plugin for the job
✅ Integrating Combat Fury into the project
✅ Understanding the system structure
✅ Planning future improvements
✅ Breaking down strengths and limitations
This is a more **honest, reflective devlog**, focusing on learning, improving, and tackling weaker areas as a developer.
If you’ve ever struggled with combat systems — especially melee — this should give you a realistic look at the process.
