October 26, 2025 service for the First Unitarian Church of Salt Lake City. Rev. Monica Dobbins reflects on her longtime tarot practice, explaining that while the cardsโ€™ occult history is largely invented, they endure as a meaningful symbolic language for introspection rather than fortune-telling. She describes tarot as a tool that helps her quiet the analytical mind, trust intuition, and stay present even with difficult symbols like the death card, which point to transformation rather than doom. She invites the congregation to honor their own inner wisdom during the darkening season, reminding them that tarot, like all sacred texts, is a human creation that can still reveal deep truths.

Lay minister Cathy Chambless reflects on her lifelong neophilia โ€“ her love of trying new things โ€“ and how this disposition shaped pivotal choices, especially her transformative year studying abroad in Vienna during college. Through experiences that challenged her assumptions, she describes becoming a changed person, ultimately leading her to recognize a life partner who embraced her openness and growth.
