It's something that a lot of us will have done, but have we ever really thought about it in any depth? I'm taking a look at online piracy for us, the history of it going all the way back to IRC and beyond. I spend most of this video thinking about the supposed golden age of online piracy, a time where I was mostly growing up and how the cultural salience of piracy seemed to fade with the advent of streaming services and the convenience of them (until of course, the market did its thing). I also reflect on what the reactions to it have been, ranging from free trials to heavy handed fines and imprisonment of people who facilitated piracy. Finally I reflect on whether it's time for all of us to hoist the black flag.
