On 24-25 November, the teams at ITER achieved a major step in the assembly of the world’s largest fusion device.

The third Vacuum Vessel module (out of nine) was lifted and lowered into the pit with millimetric precision.

The 1110-tonne module is made of Vacuum Vessel sector 5, manufactured by Europe, two Toroidal Field Coils and thermal shields.

The night-long operation was a success thanks to the skill and dedication of many teams, who planned every move down to the smallest detail and executed it with precision.

Fusion for Energy (F4E) delivered sector 5 last year in collaboration with Ansaldo Nucleare, Westinghouse Mangiarotti and Walter Tosto.
