Panda4994 | Item Conservation (How to prevent items from despawning) @Panda4994 | Uploaded 12 years ago | Updated 1 hour ago
Check out the chicken farm we built with this trick in survival mode:

In the video I show a simple way to prevent items from despawning.
In Minecraft normaly items on the ground will disappear after 5 minutes.
But if you have a fully automatic farm it's annoying to pick the items up every 5 minutes.
To avoid the despawn you can transport the items out of the loaded area (a 304x304 square around the player). As soon as an item leaves this area, it will be saved on the harddisk and the age of the item will not count up.
To get the items out of the loaded chucks in less than 5 minutes we use water streams on ice.
In Minecraft 1.3 it will be possible to get ice with the silk touch enchantment.
Also items will connect to stacks in the world. Therefor a huge mass of items will not lagg as bad as in the older releases.
