I bought this from they guy who taught me how to screen print. He owns a print shop in my home town:)
He hooked me up and I got it for $900.. but it had like 10 years worth of lint and sticky spray on it.
So I cleaned it off using carb cleaner.. and in doing so, the latex paint fell off. whoops ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ guess I'll just have to re paint it.
Took so so long.. even just cleaning it off. Looking back I should have just put it up as it was.. cause it was working fine. I just wanted to paint some drawing on it.
I used a drink paint marker at first. It was a little too think.. so I just started over.
I sketched the drawing on with a white charcoal pencil. That way I could get everything how I wanted before I started painting.
I used acrylic ink and a really small paint brush.
This whole thing tooookk foooooorever.. and I like watching something while I work so I watched friends for the first time.. the whole series. I also watched bates motel, the goosebumps series, American vandal, black mirror, the haunting of hill house... and some others. So if you wanna chit chat about some Netflix series to watch.. let's chit chat! haha smh
The only problem I found with the paint brush, was that I had to dip it in the ink so many times... for each stroke! But it did make for a rad effect in the time lapse.
There are basically three main parts of the press (that I painted) The center octagon thing, the base, and the arms.
once I got that base painted I was done.. cause I painted all the arms off screen.
Because the arms sit under the flash dryer when I'm printing, I coated the paint with a heat tempered clear coat. For the the bulk of the press I then just used a basic Matt clear coat.
Right when I was about to put it all together.. I found out there were wheels that I can put on the base... so I ordered them up and when they came in (like a week later) I put it all together.
There are separate bearings for center octagon with the arms and then for the top part with all the print heads. This is so that they spin indecent of one another.
When I got it all together some of it was covered... but it made for some cool lil peak a boos.
Only thing left, was to see if it worked. So I made some sticker sheets for the Patrons.
