I feel closest to Him in nature and in the wilderness. When I go too long without doing this I notice and feel off. It’s just something I have to do now.
“The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands… their voice goes out into all the earth.”
Elijah fled into the wilderness and heard God not in the wind, not in an earthquake, or the fire, but in a gentle whisper.
God revealing Himself in solitude, away from the noise.
The entire nation of Israel was brought into the wilderness where God descends on Mount Sinai in fire and a cloud, guiding them. The wild became the meeting place for them and God.
John the Baptizer’s ministry begins in the wilderness, fulfilling Isaiah’s prophecy: “The voice of one crying in the wilderness: ‘Prepare the way of the Lord.’”
The wilderness became a place of preparation and encounter.
“But he would withdraw to desolate places and pray.” Luke 5:16
