Paul Benfield served 21 years and does not recognize himself in any of it.
His point is not that trauma is fake. It is that the assumption runs the other way now: if you say you are fine, people hear that as denial. He compares it to his grandfather's generation, who came back from World War Two, got jobs, raised families, and that was that. Something changed after Vietnam, and the change was cultural, not medical.
