The Machrie Moor Standing Stones on the Isle of Arran are a truly captivating relic of ancient times. Pre-dating Stonehenge, their arrangement suggests astronomical significance but their purpose remains a mystery.

Archaeological digs have revealed burial chambers and other stone structures around the area. Remarkably, these stones were nearly lost to history - a farmer in the 18th century wanted to use them as building materials! Fortunately, an Earl passing by intervened, saving them for generations to come.
