Isaiah 17 predicts the destruction of the city of Damascus in Syria. But verse 3 speaks of the fall of the "fortress" of Ephraim. This appears to be more than just a description of the ancient people who were lead captive by the Assyrian army. This verse looks to the far future - to the events of the period of time in scripture known as the "Day of the Lord," a period of time when the global judgments are striking the earth. Today, Palestinians occupy the territory that once belonged to Ephraim. Today, it looks as if their fortress is about to fall.
