Xbox used to be one of the strongest brands in gaming.
From Halo, Gears of War and Xbox Live to Game Pass, Bethesda and Activision Blizzard, Xbox should have been in one of the most powerful positions in the entire industry.
But a series of poor decisions led to Studio closures, layoffs, cancelled projects, a Game Pass price hike, multiplatform confusion and an unclear console identity have left many players asking the same question:
What is Xbox now?
In this video, we look at the Xbox story as more than just one company struggling. Xbox has become a case study for what is happening across modern AAA gaming — bigger budgets, bigger acquisitions, bigger services, but often less identity, less risk and less creative soul.
This isn’t just about Xbox falling apart.

And as a game developer myself, I think this also explains why so many players are turning back toward focused, creative, passion-driven games from smaller teams and indie developers.
