Ultra violet light lies just outside of the photosynthetically active radiation range but it can have a marked effect on plants, especially morphology. Here we introduce UV and its components (UVA, UVB, and UVC / UV-A, UV-B, UV-C) and how it can stimulate resin production / essential oils in species adapted to elevated UV conditions (i.e. plants native to the subtropics at higher altitudes). We also discuss related safety issues when working with artificial UV radiation sources.
