The medieval internet has been alive this month with news that Yale University has, finally, officially declared the supposedly medieval Vinland Map a fake! The first map, from the Renaissance no less, to show North America, the USA, Canada, the mysterious Vinland of Leif Erikson and the Vikings themselves, turns out to be a nothing but a scam!
So, what's the story here? Why has it taken 50 years for an Ivy League university to admit this scandal? What is this map? And why do we, the history lovers of the internet, care?
