I just picked up the ICON® 3/8 in. Drive, 20 to 100 ft-lb Professional Split Beam Torque Wrench from Harbor Freight—and I was honestly excited to put it to use. This tool claims to be one of the most accurate torque wrenches available, backed by a lifetime warranty, a calibration certificate, and a professional-grade build.
But here's the problem: it failed right out of the box.
In this video, I show what went wrong during my first use. It didn’t provide any feedback, no click at the set torque value, and allowed me to overtighten well beyond 80 ft-lbs. I even pulled out my Pittsburgh Pro Click-Type wrench to verify—and yep, something is definitely off.
This might be a one-off lemon, but it’s something anyone buying this tool should see. I’ll be taking it back for a warranty replacement and will keep you updated on what happens next.
