Greetings from Seoul! During mid-September here in Korea, Koreans celebrate the mid-autumn festival called Chuseok (추석). Known as the Korean Thanksgiving, the holiday is a three day event, with the 2nd day being the main day. Many Koreans leave Seoul to visit their relatives (unless their whole family lives in Seoul). Lots of eating, talking, and paying respect to ancestors happen.
Other families skip the traditional Chuseok festivities above and travel to nearby countries, such as Japan, China, or the Philippines, for a much needed vacation.
But for us foreigners, it can get quite lonely, as a city of 10+ million people becomes more of a ghost town. So does Seoul a literal ghost town during the three day vacation holiday? We roam the streets of my neighborhood during the morning to find out!
