Why is mocking romance so popular, is romance the joke, and why are people always so ready to put down romance readers? This is the first video in a discussion series about some of the discourse that we continue to have in the book community. There is definitely a hierarchy of readers and a hierarchy of genres and there are some genres that are automatically looked down upon by people who don't read them. Romance is not the only genre to have unfair, belittling comments about it, but it is commonly acceptable to make fun of romance.
