The Richard Petty Motorsports 43 has been stuck in a continuing cycle of disappointment. Not many people remember or even lived through the glory of days of Richard Petty. After hitting the rebuild button in 2018 with driver Bubba Wallace, the team was at its lowest point. Since then, they've gained former Joe Gibbs Racing driver Erik Jones and veteran crew chief Jerry Baxter. They've also had a major boost in sponsorship to begin year one of the NASCAR Next Gen era.
