I don't normally engage with current movie-assessment trends; I have a deep dislike of the outrage culture that permeates much of what passes for film criticism on the internet. I find the people that spend their time thinking and writing about things they hate rather than the things they love rather detestable and pathetic.
That being said, I do find the diatribes surrounding the problematic aspects of Revenge of the Nerds to be interesting because they show how the views of the writers have gotten in the way of understanding the film. They are so quick to find distasteful elements that they have failed to understand the film and where it fits in story-telling traditions.
That's not the best mental framework to be in if you want to analyse movies.
But then again, maybe they do understand the film and are just chasing those outrage clicks.
Who knows? Whatever the case, these people are rather detestable.
Anyway, Revenge of the Nerds is a 1984 American comedy film directed by Jeff Kanew and starring Robert Carradine, Anthony Edwards, Ted McGinley, and Bernie Casey. It did fairly well at the box-office and has become something of a classic over the years, despite what modern critics would like you to believe.
