In a matter of days now, I intend to set off across the vast Atlantic Ocean to fulfil a dream of flying myself to the USA. Flying over such a large expanse of water in a single-engine aeroplane requires me to have complete trust in my aeroplane.
Built in 1977, my PA28 Piper Turbo Arrow 3 is an old bird, but it's kept in tip-top mechanical condition through regular inspections, overhauls and upgrades.
Join me on this flight as I take GBMIV to have its last maintenance inspection before the challenging crossing and consider if anything more can be done to reduce the risk of a mechanical breakdown en route.
