Three years of ownership. One full engine rebuild. And then this happened.
In this episode of Biker Torque, I take my 1972 Laverda 750SF, nicknamed La Diva, out for her first proper ride after a complete engine rebuild with ceramic coated racing pistons, a rebuilt crank, and electronic ignition. The plan? A relaxed group ride down the Old Princes Highway, through Broughton Pass, into Berrima, and out to Farm Club Australia in the NSW Southern Highlands for a coffee and a pie, before heading home via Robertson and the iconic Macquarie Pass.
It didn't quite go to plan.
Along the way you'll get the full story of how I fell in love with the Laverda brand, a brief history of Laverda motorcycles and the 750SF model, the drama of melting a piston on an early ride, the full engine rebuild process, an electrical gremlin that killed the bike stone dead at lunch, and finally, real, raw onboard footage of a low-side crash on Macquarie Pass when the 750SF's famous "Super Freni" front drum brake grabbed hard mid-corner.
This is an honest, no-holds-barred classic motorcycle review, the good, the bad, and the moment it all went wrong. I walk away from this ride not knowing whether I should get La Diva rebuilt again, or finally let her go.
