Philosopher William Lane Craig is fond of claiming that if God does not exist and our lives end at physical death, then our lives are ultimately meaningless. However a recent paper by philosopher Toby Betenson (2015) argues that, according to Craig's own conception of what it means for a life to be futile, theism ensures ultimate futility rather than ultimate meaning.
