I have a dream, a wish, that in the not too distant future, as a result of a peaceful and gradual, but inexorable social evolution, helped along by the personal element of the rational, progressive and clear-thinking part of the masses, a great portion of which would be represented by the New Atheism movement, a time will come when the greatest excesses of capitalism would be tamed, science and technology would have undergone an exponential development. The global warming process would have been taken under control. Most importantly, the standard of living in the present poorest regions in the world would have risen to a more palatable level. Starvation, dying of hunger, would have been unheard of. I don't know what kind of social order these future nations will have. Hey, it's a wish, and as wishes go, the detailed ways of achieving them are not so clear.
Hand in hand with these changes I described (science, technology, no starvation), and even preceeding them, there would have been a great diminishing in the number of believers in the present religions, due to the great attention, paid to EDUCATION, which it deserves. In my dream, religion doesn't disappear entirely. The remaining small islands of religious communities, which still cling to their, irrelevant already, 'sacred' religion, would be put on the list of endangered old cultures, traditions and languages, and a detailed record will be made of them, so that they dont vanish from humankind's memory.
I have a wish, that in that future time, not so distant, but let's not deceive ourselves, not so near either, the following study material, would be part of the curriculum of the future schools and colleges. At the exam, the students will be asked a question: "Do you consider this type of atheism aggressive, considering the circumstances, and don't forget they didn't use violence?" Do you think the positive, or the negative answer to this question would gain the student a good grade?
