The first Alternate Art Pokemon Cards originally appeared in the back half of the Sun and Moon Era. While there were technically Alternate Art Pokemon Cards during the XY Generation, these were specifically designated as Promo Cards and often appearend in Pokemon Collection Boxes as opposed to main series set releases.
The original buzz behind Alternate Arts was not nearly as abundant as it is in the current Pokemon Card Market.
