We're coming on swarm season, the time when strong colonies are fixing on sending off their queen and a good part of the hive to form a new colony; a swarm. It's been 5-6 days since I was last in my hives and on today's agenda I'm looking for indications of swarming and doing what I can to deter the urge to swarm. Since I don't want more colonies and I'm not planning on splitting the hives (taking the queen and some bees to create a smaller hive to simulate a swarm) I'm going into the hives every 5-7 days and destroying all queen cups/cells.
