DontTrustTheRabbit | Is it ok to EXCLUDE SOMEBODY by speaking your NATIVE LANGUAGE? @DontTrustTheRabbit | Uploaded February 2018 | Updated October 2024, 4 hours ago.
Hey rabbits!
The holidays are long over, but I'm still remembering them as if Christmas and New Year's Eve were yesterday. Mostly because of the time my boyfriend and I spent with our family and friends. Which is always... great. But we usually face quite some difficulties and both cultural and communication problems as well.
Let me tell you, it's not easy to have friends and family members over when you and your partner are from different countries. Which language should you communicate in? Is it rude towards your partner to speak your native language that he/she doesn't understand? Or is it rude to force your visitors to speak English? How does it feel to be excluded by others communicating in a language that you don't know? What can you do about it?
In today's video I want to share my experiences, thoughts and feelings towards this topic with you. Since there are a lot of situations in which language and communication issues interfere with a comfortable social interaction, the points I raise may be helpful for many people.
Note: I'm sorry that the audio and video quality is not optimal in this episode. As many of you may know I have to stay in bed due to pregnancy related problems. This is why I filmed this video in my bedroom and it's always tricky to switch to a new location. The focus of the camera, the perfect spot for the microphone, the lighting,... So please don't be too hard to me. I'll work on the issues and improve the quality!
