Aaron shares his wisdom on this possibly divisive question on our latest podcast episode!

🌱 Basically, it depends on the plant
💦 Lots of plants will do just fine in water
🌱 But, some you’ll have to propagate in soil or potting mix
🪴 Because of its excellent aeration and ability to hold moisture, many people use sphagnum moss
🌎 For those with sustainability concerns around using sphagnum moss, leca or pumice are good alternatives
🌱 Although it can be trickier, the benefit of propagating plants in soil is that the plant is growing in its final location (it won’t need transplanting once it’s rooted)
🪴 It can be difficult to transfer water-propagated plants to soil because they’ll need lots of aeration in their new location
💦 But, water propagation is easy (just set it and forget it)
🪴 With soil propagation it can be more difficult the plant to root properly
