In this mini-tutorial series, I will compare the Apple 13 inch MacBook from 2019 with the stock configuration against a used 2011 MacBook Pro from eBay.
Because many people ask the question is buying a used MacBook Pro worth it, or should you better get a new one?
I will upgrade memory as well as the SSD of the old MacBook and run some benchmarks to compare the results before and after.
Additionally, I will stop the boot-up time and show you how to create a USB-Stick to install macOS onto the upgrades SSD drive.
And while the new 2019 MacBook Pro looks very nice, the old MacBook will have more memory as well as significantly more storage.
One major downside of getting a used MacBook is that it may not be able to run the lattes operating system. For example, the 2011 model I upgrade in this tutorial officially only supports macOS High Sierra, while the 2019 model can run the new macOS Catalina.
My conclusion, if you still own a used MacBook, looking into an upgrade is worth it, but if you have to buy one, please make sure it is in good condition, otherwise, it may make more sense to get a new one.
The conditions of used hardware can vary widely, I will also show you how to clean the used MacBook. And you will be able to compare the Geekbench performance test before and after the upgrade as well as to the new model.
