God is called Father or Heavenly Father throughout the New Testament to the point where it is common to hear people saying that God is not called Father until then. Often this line of thinking views God as distant in the Hebrew Bible and not close and personal until the New Testament. This is simply not true. Deuteronomy 32 provides an excellent example where God is clearly described as Father. It turns out that this is not a one off case but actually a major theme in the Hebrew Bible. Understanding this helps make sense of not just the Hebrew Bible but also the New Testament.
