Is Crohn’s or Ulcerative Colitis an autoimmune diseases? It turns out that neither Crohn's nor ulcerative colitis is an autoimmune disease. They're immune-mediated diseases. Autoimmune implies that it's your body attacking itself. Immune-mediated disease means the immune system is going after something, but that's not your body. It's typically going after bacteria in your body and your body's is more or less an innocent bystander to the process.
