Uniswap Labs and Securitize integrated shares of BlackRock’s money market fund BUIDL into Uniswap’s DeFi rails, enabling the fund to be traded directly on chain instead of through brokers or exchanges.

- BUIDL can be traded 24/7 on chain via immutable smart contracts
- BlackRock also purchased UNI governance tokens
- One of the first cases of money market funds trading in DeFi

But there are caveats.

- Only whitelisted users who passed Securitize KYC can access it
- $5M initial subscription and $250K minimum afterward

So this is not permissionless DeFi yet.

Still, it is another sign that traditional finance and DeFi are slowly converging.
