I sat down with Tommy Sewall to record another episode where once again I am reminded of the power of STORY. There is something so simple about Tommy's journey, yet so profound at the same time.

I think this is a very powerful episode because we hear a simple journey to God from someone who made this decision when he was only 15 years old. He committed his life to growing in his faith. He got married young and quickly became a leader after graduating from Bible College.
You might be asking, "what's so powerful about that?" Where is the "miracle"? What huge obstacle did Tommy have to overcome?
And years ago, I would likely be thinking... "meh," after hearing a simple journey without drama or heavy pain points.
The problem with this view, is that it is a warped view of the story.
For much of my life, I felt more drawn to the crazy story. I remember reading the book "Martyrs For Christ," a book full of Christians who died on the mission field, advancing the Gospel. I believe our American Churches are even part of the problem because we seek out the more unbelievable stories to tell. Perhaps it's because we want the "wow factor." Don't get me wrong, the story is always about God, and so yes, even the wild and crazy turn around stories should be proclaimed. They are great testimonies to the power of God to bring hope to even the most hopeless situation. But not at the expense of celebrating stories like Tommy Sewall's.
I hope wherever you are listening or watching this episode that you will take a few moments to reflect on your journey to God. Maybe even write down a few key moments. I think you'll be surprised what you discover from a simple exercise like this.
