Airport lounges sound fancy…but with overcrowding becoming an ever-growing problem, are they still worth it? We’ve all been there — stuck in the airport chaos with a lounge promising peace and quiet, free food, among other perks…but not all lounges are created equal. Some just offer the basics — comfy seating, ok Wi-Fi, snacks, and basic drinks, while others take things to the next level with gourmet food, showers, and even napping rooms. So you've really gotta assess things on a case-by-case basis because most Priority Pass lounges I've been to recently were nothing to write home about and were more crowded than the regular airport terminal. Even airline and bank-specific lounges, while much nicer in most cases, are still having overcrowding issues and despite paying hundreds of dollars per year for premium cards, guests may still have to wait to get lounge access. Each brand has tried to tweak the rules to limit guest access or raise the annual fees on some premium cards, but this doesn't seem to be a problem that's going to magically go away. The bottom line is that lounges can still be a great value in 2025 and help justify the cost of some premium cards, especially for frequent travelers, if you know which ones to aim for and how to access them. But I've personally experienced plenty of cases where just sitting in the terminal and buying a snack was much more peaceful than the chaotic, overcrowded airport lounge.
