In this video, we meet Matt and Alan who tell us what it's like learning to use a long cane (sometimes called a white cane). Alan was given long cane training by his local authority before reaching out to Guide Dogs and continuing his journey with Matt, one of our Vision Rehabilitation Specialists. Learning and maintaining long cane skills can help people with a vision impairment stay active and mobile while waiting to be matched with a guide dog, and in some cases a cane is a more suitable option than a dog. Watch and learn the benefits of using a cane from Alan's own experience.
