Professor Shahram Akbarzadeh is Director of the Middle East Studies Forum at Deakin University, and non-Resident Senior Fellow at the Middle East Council on Global Affairs (Doha). Prof Akbarzadeh is Australia’s preeminent scholar of Middle East politics and has led major projects, including the prestigious ARC Future Fellowship on the Role of Islam in Iran’s Foreign Policy-making. Prof Akbarzadeh has an extensive publication record and has contributed to public debate on topics such as regional rivalry, authoritarian rule and sectarianism in the Middle East.
