Join us for an exclusive night of jazz with The Irvine Barclay Theatre Jazz Band along with incredible vocalist Lia Booth playing the songs of New York! Comprised of Saxmen Jerry Mandel and Craig Springer, joined by the Ron Kobayashi Trio. Ron Kobayashi on piano, Baba Elefante on bass, and Steve Dixon on drums have been performing together for more than 25 years. The trio was voted Best Jazz Group in Orange County by readers of the OC Weekly and was nominated for Best Jazz Group in Orange County by the Orange County Music Awards.
Special guests tonight include John Reynolds on trumpet and Lia Booth.
Dr. John Reynolds is a highly sought-after educator, clinician, and trumpeter. He holds a Doctorate of Musical Arts in Jazz Studies from USC as well as degrees from San Diego State University (SDSU) and Point Loma Nazarene University. Dr. Reynolds is well versed in instrumental conducting as he is a student of Larry Livingston (USC Thornton School of Music) and Sharon Lavery (Downey Symphony). He has conducted numerous wind ensembles, orchestras, and pit orchestras for various musical productions over the last 15 years.
Lia is one of the brightest young jazz singers around. For the past few years, she has captivated audiences throughout Southern California, earning widespread acclaim. Notably, she has garnered respect and admiration from her fellow musicians—a group known for their discerning tastes. Her exceptional vocal tone, innate sense of swing, beautiful phrasing, and clear mastery of harmony and scat singing have established her as a formidable talent in the jazz world.
