Around 140 migrants crossed the English Channel after setting off from the Normandy coast of France and arriving in Portsmouth. RNLI lifeboats brought them ashore, where Border Force, police, the Coastguard and other emergency services were waiting.

Protesters descended on Eastney, with demonstrators attempting to prevent coaches carrying the migrants from leaving the area.
