Benny Lewis | Irish guy tries to learn American accent through Sinatra's "Under my skin" @irishpolyglot | Uploaded September 2013 | Updated October 2024, 16 hours ago.
Blog post about this and other aspects of my accent project: fluentin3months.com/a-accent
I made this video with Susanna Zaraysky, who specializes in language learning via songs and other media. Her website is: createyourworldbooks.com and her You Tibe channel: youtube.com/createyourworldbooks .
This summer I had a fun mini project - it won't be TERRIBLY impressive because of the nature of only having put a few hours into it (I needed to recharge my batteries for the huge language project I'm about to take on - stay tuned!) but I learned a few interesting nuggets about accent reduction, that I'll be applying to particular sounds in foreign languages.
The short time invested meant that I couldn't SPEAK with an American accent, but I could say certain prepared phrases with more of an American accent (see the post above for audio samples), and could try to sing with more of an American accent. It won't convince many of you, but for me this was always about learning about accent reduction in general so that I can apply it to foreign languages.
I'll announce my next language project in the LHL email list (sign up on the top-right of fi3m.com) on Monday. Don't miss it!!! Then a week later, you'll see my intro video here on Youtube, and I'll have weekly updates :)
