in 1984 the Provisional IRA detonated a 1000 lb landmine as an armoured police car passed along the Crossmaglen to Camlough Road, in South Armagh. Two members of the RUC, Trevor Elliott and Neville Gray, were killed as a result of the explosion. Trevor Elliott was killed in the explosion and Neville Gray died from the injuries he sustained on 19th May. A third officer, Mark Elwood, survived but suffered multiple injuries in the explosion. He was registered blind as a result of the attack.
