A lie, as it later turns out, atrocity propaganda, as it had already been successful in the First World War. When the first bombs fall on Baghdad shortly afterward, the consequences of the attacks remain invisible to the world public. All representations of the war are staged or censored.
Propaganda has been used to shape opinion ever since people have ruled over people. In times of war, it is at its best. It is used to demoralize the enemy, to fire up one's own troops, and to fire up the home front.
