The Iranian strike happened less than 24 hours after Israel launched a ground operation in southern Lebanon. Ambassadors for Israel and Iran threatened each other with retaliation if attacked again, amid fears of a wider war in the Middle East. Israeli airstrikes have continued in southern Lebanon, Syria and Gaza, while the Iranian-backed Hezbollah continues to fire rockets into Israel.
