HUGE NEWS!! Apple's regular iPhone 18 is shaping up to be a VERY interesting upgrade, but there's one massive surprise: you're going to have to WAIT longer than usual to get one!!
Apple is reportedly completely changing its iPhone release strategy. Instead of launching the standard iPhone 18 alongside the Pro models this September, multiple reports say Apple is holding it back until Spring 2027. The iPhone 18 Pro, Pro Max and Ultra arrive first, with the regular iPhone 18 following several months later.
But that wait could bring some BIG upgrades!! The standard iPhone 18 is expected to feature Apple's new A20 chip, manufactured using advanced 2nm technology. That should bring improvements to performance, power efficiency, Apple Intelligence and potentially battery life.
RAM is getting interesting too. Reports currently disagree between 9GB and 12GB, but either would be an increase over the iPhone 17's 8GB. A 12GB configuration could be especially important for unlocking some of Apple's most advanced new Siri and Apple Intelligence features.
Apple is also expected to bring the smaller Dynamic Island to the regular iPhone 18, alongside its new C2 modem for improved cellular connectivity. A new 24MP front-facing camera has also been rumoured, although that upgrade isn't as certain yet.
However, Apple could make some controversial changes to keep the regular iPhone affordable. Reports suggest the company has considered using a cheaper display and sharing more components between the iPhone 18 and lower-cost iPhone 18e.
Then there's the PRICE!! With the iPhone 17 currently starting at $799, rumours and rising component costs have created speculation that Apple could push the iPhone 18 up to around $899. That price is NOT confirmed yet, so we'll have to wait for Apple's Spring 2027 announcement to know for certain.
Could the iPhone 18 become the BEST-value iPhone in Apple's new lineup, or would $899 be simply TOO MUCH for the standard model?
