If you want to capture quality audio from your iPad or iPhone you can't beat the Roland UA-22. It's simple to set up using the Camera Connection kit. Monitor the audio through the Phones input on the front or capture the sound to something like the Zoon H2n or similar device. There is also a MIDI IN and Out for adding external gear like synths and drum machines The UA-22 is also a great audio device for OSX or Windows. And it comes with Sonar X1 LE. Search around for a deal. Mine cost $AU199.
