Floating Oak Plywood Entertainment Unit The Offcut 2020-07-20 | PLANS AVAILABLE HERE: gum.co/IGvmHFor this project I wanted a clean, minimal entertainment unit to go on our feature wall and bring focus to the material rather than the design of the piece itself. I used Oak veneer birch plywood which has a super clean grain so I decided to make the front panel one long piece instead of 3 separate panels. There is a good amount of storage for devices and I have run HDMI cables through the wall from the TV to inside the unit so there are no visible cables. I also used the bristles from a draught stopper that goes on doors to give a clean cable entry for the soundbar on top that sits on top of the unit.I used french cleats to hang it onto the walls. Best DIY Table Saw Stand For A Small Workshop The Offcut 2020-04-20 | Plans available here: gum.co/VucGiThis is my concept for an extendable/pull out table saw. I had been playing with this idea in my head for a while now. I didn't want to make a mobile base on wheels because the floor is quite uneven and I wanted the stability of a fixed base. It is mounted to the wall so it is very rigid. I was initially thinking of having it fold down to be flat against the wall but having it this way means I can still use it when it up against the wall. One Giant Coaster (Sofa Tray) // ASMR style The Offcut 2020-04-17 | I had a perfectly round piece of 24mm birch plywood offcut that could be put to good use. Since its pretty expensive plywood and high quality I didn't want to waste it so I cleaned it up and put a few coats of varnish on it and it works perfectly as a little sofa tray/giant coaster. Since its so thick and heavy it doesn't move or get bumped around much when people are sitting next to it so it seems perfectly safe to put drinks on it. This is hardly a project video since it's so simple. New Workshop! Putting Up Plywood Walls The Offcut 2020-02-15 | This is the garage that I will be setting up my new workshop in. I decided not to put in insulation mainly to save on costs and I don't think it will block sound that much as most of the sound will travel through the studs, and the garage door will be open most of the time. I am using 15mm plywood so I can screw things straight into it and not have to worry about screwing things into studs. I ran wiring through the studs to the locations of the power outlets that I planned out and will get an electrician to finish up the job. Oak Plywood Coffee Table With Hairpin Legs The Offcut 2018-03-29 | I was given some unused pieces of 24mm thick Oak veneer plywood by Plytech and they asked if I could make a piece of furniture with it to put on display. The oak veneer is really nice so I wanted to keep the design really clean and simple and thought I would try hairpin legs for the first time. This is my first time using oak and I had to do a lot of hand planing and thickness planing before I could cut it down to size I wanted but I really like the result and really enjoyed working with oak. The plywood has a high pressure laminate on the faces which gives it some good protection and the white gives a nice contrast with the oak. I decided to leave the edges of the plywood visible instead of edge banding. Cyclone Dust Separator (Shop Vac Hack) The Offcut 2017-02-25 | I had been thinking over this design for a while now. I wanted to make a dust separator that didn't have a hose or pipe connecting it to the shop vac, and I wanted it to be a single unit to make it easy to move around and take up less space. I watched a lot of other people's take on dust separators but the 2 that really helped me with this design were Cosmas Bauer and Matthias Wandel.This was the simplest solution I could think of and the cheapest, buying only the bucket and using scrap plywood for the rest. I am very happy with how it turned out. It works great and its not overly bulky or fiddly with hoses or wooden frames going everywhere. And it just so happened that the base of the bin fits inside the wheels of my Ryobi shop vac! Small Lumber Rack The Offcut 2016-07-06 | Starting to tackle my wood storage problem.I needed to get my long pieces off the floor and stored away nicely. I looked at quite a few designs for a lumber rack and ended up settling for this design. I cut 2x4s in half to get 2x2s to get more out of it and to make it less bulky. its a small rack and won't be holding a huge amount so I'm not too worried about losing a bit of structural integrity by cutting the 2x4s in half. I didn't want to make anything too big as I didn't want it to take up too much wall or floor space. Ryobi Drill Press Unboxing The Offcut 2016-04-10 | I recently hit 5000 subscribers so I thought I would treat myself to a new tool :p.This is the Ryobi drill press from Bunnings. It seemed to be the best budget drill press around, and everyone uses Ryobi so I thought it I'd give it a go. I decided my little drill mount stand thing was getting too annoying to use.Assembly was pretty straight forward. The little plastic guard covering the chuck seemed useless and would get in the way of changing bits every time so I took it off. Laser seems pretty accurate, though not sure how often I would use it. There is an odd clicking noise from the motor each time it stops. I'm not sure if thats normal or not as this is my first drill press but to me it seemed strange. Will probably be building a stand for it next or a workbench to put it on. Rustic Letterbox (Wedding Gift) The Offcut 2016-01-23 | I make a rustic house shaped letter box for a wedding. The style is similar to that of the wedding venue: rustic with big red barn doors. I used plywood and pieces of pallet wood I had lying around, and some scrap Jarrah for the doors. This was my first time using pin nails, and really small ones too. Replacing My French Cleat Hand Tool Storage The Offcut 2015-08-23 | I gave up on my french cleat system for my hand tools. I thought it would be very useful having the ability to move everything around according to my needs but after I had made holders and placed them on the cleats they never needed moving. The holders would tend to fall off (as shown in the beginning) because they're not heavy enough. This stopped me from making the rest of the holders for my tools and I've finally made the effort to make a whole new wall storage for them. I took a page out of Matthias Wandel's book and made this which allowed me to be more flexible in where I place things and not have everything situated along the rails of a cleat. I also thought I'd try magnets for holding tools.
