Greenpeace Unearthed | Investigation: Monopoly in UK oceans @GreenpeaceUnearthed | Uploaded June 2016 | Updated October 2024, 1 hour ago.
A Greenpeace investigation has revealed how a handful of millionaire-owned criminal firms are monopolising UK fishing quotas, leaving small-scale fishers (who tend to fish more sustainably) without permission to catch enough to earn a living. UK fisheries minister George Eustace likes to blame the EU, but since the Common Fisheries Policy (CFP) was reformed in 2013, the power to allocate quota is in the hands of UK government. It is failing to do so fairly.
