Luke 2: 40-52
______________________

The first verse:

Τὸ δὲ παιδίον ηὔξανεν καὶ ἐκραταιοῦτο πληρούμενον σοφίᾳ, καὶ χάρις Θεοῦ ἦν ἐπ’ αὐτό.

[To de paidion euxanen kai ekrataiouto pleroumenon sophia kai charis Theou en ep' auto.]

So the young child matured and became full of vigor, replete with wisdom, and the well-faring of God was upon him.

And having completed the days [of the Passover], and setting out to return [to Bethlehem], Jesus, just a boy, remained behind in Jerusalem, and his parents didn't know. They naturally assumed that he was with their caravan, so they went a day's journey [without him]; but then when they started visiting with their various relatives and friends, to see whom he was with, they didn't find him. So they returned to Jerusalem looking for him. And it was that after three days, they found him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the professors, both hearing them and questioning them. In fact, all those giving him audience were surprised at his ability to understand and his responses to them. And seeing him, [his parents] were dumbstruck, and his mother said to him, "Son, why have you done this to us? Look: your father and I were worried sick looking for you!"

And [Jesus] said to them, "Why were you seeking me? Weren't you aware that in the affairs of my Father it obliges me to be?"

Jesus' reply:

Τί ὅτι ἐζητεῖτέ με; οὐκ ᾔδειτε ὅτι ἐν τοῖς τοῦ Πατρός μου δεῖ εἶναί με;

(Ti hoti ezeteite me ouk edeite hoti en tois tou Patros mou dei einai me.)

But they did not put together what this saying that he said to them meant.

But he came down and accompanied them to Nazareth, and was obedient to them. And his mother kept close all these sayings in her heart. So Jesus drove forward in such wisdom and maturity and well-faring before God and men.
